Fun-da-mental

The word essential means ...vital. One can say: "I packed the bare essentials",
meaning the necessary only. Many say that money is essential to happiness
and experience is essential to get a job.
I teach the essentials of English grammar. Grammar is essential to me!
I explain to students that it is as naturally occurring to the English language as
sugar occurring in fruit. I shall leave all grammar theories aside, regular,
context-free grammar, etc.
To me, grammar is simply essential as it forms strings of any formal language.
On many occasions, we may communicate paying little or no attention to how
accurate our grammar is, we even do without it altogether in a state of an
emergency or if we're dealing with a non-native or the hard of hearing.
Lets have an example say "Put the kettle on, please", you can do without the verb,
the article the, the exclamation please and simply say "Kettle on!". The meaning and the message
are still rather intact, however, not the manner- omitting the" grammar bit" has definitely left
an imperative tone to a simple request. Grammar is what makes or breaks the beautiful marriage of words in our language, it is maths and maths is fun or fundamental... It is sophisticated if accurate, smooth and all that adds up to power and power is definitely ESSENTIAL!

Amen to that, grammar should always be essential! Thanks for reminding me to stay ever vigilante! Wonderful piece indeed!
Grammar was essential in my house growing up... my mother was an english major. She would even correct our shopping lists in the infamous red pen.
So essential it was!
